Juneteenth Celebration
Every year, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated proudly honors Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, as an historic moment in American history. On June 19, 1865, news of the Emancipation Proclamation finally reached the last enslaved individuals in Galveston, Texas, marking the true beginning of freedom for all.
We proudly recognize the efforts of our own trailblazing Soror, Opal Lee, the “Grandmother of Juneteenth,” whose unwavering advocacy helped make Juneteenth a federally recognized holiday in 2021.
Today, we celebrate emancipation, reflect on our ancestors’ strength and resilience, and recommit to advancing justice, equity, and unity. Through education, action, and solidarity, we move closer to a world rooted in true freedom for all.
This year, as in past years, we proudly walked in the parade alongside members of the Divine Nine and community organizations within Milwaukee.
